Since 1980, Geelen Counterflow has been a market leader for designing, building, and installing counterflow dryers and coolers for feed and food products. They are true pioneers on several fronts: Geelen invented the Counterflow Cooler & Counterflow Dryer. They’re also well-known for their commitment to the environment. The care and attention they bring to being a green and lean company is known in more than 100 countries. They aim for the highest food safety standards, best energy efficiency and lowest TCO for their products. Their goal is to eliminate negative environmental impact on customer drying and cooling processes. That goal extends to their quote–through–production operations. It’s the foundation for using e-Con as their sales and product configurator.
Why e-Con CPQ for Geelen?
What makes e-Con such an important link? Though Geelen occupies a very specific niche for dryers and coolers, their products are complex. there are thousands of possible variants, if you multiply all versions, dimensions, options, voltages, and more. With e-Con, Geelen can map all variants to pricing in the e-Con models, so that users can process a quotation and convert it to a production order efficiently and with no errors.
In daily practice, the Sales department is the only one working with the e-Con interface (from the Navision sales order lines). But Geelen Counterflow results are possible because all departments work with the texts, prices, bills of material, and processing plans generated by e-Con.
How Geelen uses e-Con CPQ
Geelen quotations cover a universe of details, all managed by e-Con working as part of the Dynamics database. Each sales line is used to configure a separate part of a complete customer installation for drying and cooling: dryer, cooler, fan, cyclone, lock, control, and more. The number of lines per quotation can vary from 1-30, with multiple configurations per customer order. There’s a lot being processed:
- Every line lets the user start a specific e-Con model, then make choices for major properties (configuration, size variant, main voltage, control voltage etc.).
- The model generates a unique main article number, unique sub-article numbers of modules (up to 3 layers deep) multi-lingual sales texts, and sales prices.
- e-Con enables users to move quickly through all needed lines and auto-generate a quote. The quote can be converted automatically to an order, which will include production BOMs and machining plans.
- After a configuration has been closed, all data is saved in the relevant Dynamics NAV table.
e-Con flexibility also is important to Geelen’s flexibility. The company has built rules in e-Con that enable sellers to make customer-specific modifications for an added charge. In this case, customizations must be manually “translated” into parts list rules and machining plans by the Work Preparation department. e-Con accommodates this approach to custom work with precision. Nothing is ever ad hoc, and e-Con makes it possible for customization to be less than 5 percent of all bill of materials rules.
